Supporting FIRST, Supports STEM in Mayfield

Did you know, all but one high-school neighboring Mayfield has a FIRST Team, while Mayfield doesn't?

Brush High School - Hacksaw FTC Team 1001
Orange High School - The Flying Circuits, FRC Team 1787
West-Geauga High School - WestG Wolver Machines, FTC Team 26883
Eastlake North High School - Rebelling Rangers, FTC Team 27864
Kirtland High School - Electric Hornets, FTC Team 8120

The neighboring high-school without a FIRST team is Richmond Heights HS, which has a considerably smaller student population and doesn't excuse Mayfield which has a comparable student population size with the schools fielding FIRST Teams

School Support Ensures The Programs Longevity

Despite calls for support, FIRST Tech Challenge continues to be unsupported by Mayfield ultimately resulting in the demise of Team 17440, Tech Support/ClawTech in 2022.

Furthermore, despite the continued plea for support rekindling in 2024, our team continues to be met with a lackluster and an ultimately disappointing response. This means that once team leaders graduate, this will mean the end of the FTC program within Mayfield again, burdening any future student interested in STEM or FIRST with restarting the program by themselves or to join a team at another school

School Support Levels The Playing Field

FIRST offers students an unparalleled opportunity to gain real-world skills. However, Mayfield students are at a disadvantage because they lack the full support enjoyed by neighboring school districts like Kirtland, Orange, and Beachwood. These teams' success gives their students a significant edge in college scholarships and future STEM careers.

Mayfield students deserve the same investment. As of now, our community team faces numerous issues as the only opportunity for us to have access to a machine shop, a game field to practice, and additional parts to supplement our robot is in Kent, Ohio with KSS Robotics. Actual school support ensures a competitive team, a successful season, and students better prepared for a future in STEM.

Learn More About FIRST

Mayfield should embrace extra-curricular STEM programs like FIRST more, not push it to the side.
